Daily Dose : Java 7 Developer Preview Builds Finally Available!

Oracle's new Java 7 JDK, or JDK7, is now available for download by developers. This version of JDK7 has been officially feature complete since the beginning of the year. Users are encouraged to report bugs between now and the end of March.  Just remember that this build of JDK7 isn't under an open license, as several of the libraries used in production are closed-source.

Chemistry is the Next Apache TLP

Apache Chemistry was originally slated to be a single Java oriented project. Now that it's reached Top-Level Project status, however, the vision behind Chemistry has changed. OpenCMIS, cmislib, phpclient and DotCMIS are now an integral part of this open source implementation of the OASIS CMIS specification. Providing open-source, interoperable APIs to CMIS-compliant content repositories including IBM FileNet, Microsoft SharePoint, Nuxeo, and Alfresco; Adobe Chemistry will enable many software platforms, such as Java, Python, and .NET to adopt CMIS specification.

GNOME 3.0 Beta On The Horizon

The GNOME 3.0 Beta is now available for download.  GNOME developers are still working to correct several errors that crop up while using GNOME 3.0 in the desktop environment. Changes have been completed on the user interface, including policy kit authentication and workspace handling. The final release of GNOME 3.0 is slated for April 6th.

Taking A Bite Out of Mac OS X Lion : Developer Release Announced

While the general public won't be able to get their hands on Mac OS X Lion for at least a few more months, Apple developers are may now test drive the new operating system (http://www.apple.com/macosx/lion/).  Apple hopes to encourage developers to produce apps prior to this summer's launch. The new OS will marry a mobile app-style format with the original Unix-based foundation crucial to the overall success of the OS X line. New features will allow the user to track what's running on their Mac, organize their apps, upgrade their mail program, and use their computer as a server.
